Folklore Fiesta to begin on February 10

The Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS), in association with Kerala Folklore Academy, will conduct a three-day Folklore Fiesta from February 10.As part of the programme, BKS is organising a contest for the title and logo for the Folklore Fiesta. Those interested can contact Convener Binoj Mathew on 36665376 or bksamajam@gmail.com for details by January 19.The festival is aimed at inculcating the elegance and uniqueness of Kerala’s ancient art forms like Padayani, Theyyam, Pulluvan Pattu, Kalamezhuthu, Nadan Pattu among the younger generation. These art forms will be performed by 15 artistes from Kerala and offer children and art lovers in Bahrain an opportunity to revive nostalgic memories. This event will be inaugurated by Kerala’s Education and Cultural Affairs Minister M.A. Baby.“Under the influence of a strong visual media, our traditional art forms are no longer valued and most of them are on the verge of dying. It is our duty to make efforts to revive these art forms and preserve them for the generations to come, as our strength as the competitive human being is definitely based on the strong cultural heritage we enjoyed during our childhood,” BKS President P V Radhakrishna Pillai said.He said that BKS was overwhelmed by the response to its previous programmes like GCC Literary Camp and the Latin American Drama Festival.“As a responsible socio cultural organisation, we will continue these humble but sincere efforts to promote, enhance and empower the artistic skills among our members and the Malayalee community in Bahrain,” he said.
