BKS induction ceremony held

Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS) yesterday organised an induction ceremony for the Executive Committee 2011-2012.
Youth festival BKS Devji Balaklotsavam was also launched during the event, and young member's academic and extra curricular achievements were awarded.
Indian Ambassador Mohan Kumar was the chief guest and the representative from Devji Balaklotsavam Jaya Mohan was the guest of honour.
“I am extremely happy that PV Radhakrishna Pillai has been re-elected as the president of the Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam. He has worked relentlessly for the betterment of the Indian community in Bahrain, over the last few years,” Mr Kumar said. He acknowledged BKS as an Indian cultural centre.
During his address, the ambassador told guests that the Bahraini leadership had told him on numerous occasions that they were proud of the Indian community in Bahrain. He added that the leadership also lauded the community’s contribution to the progress and development of the Kingdom.
Mr Kumar said he was proud of the achievements of the Indian community and hailed the strong relationship between Bahrain and India.
He urged everyone to redouble efforts to rebuild Bahrain.
Dr Ravi Pillai, who was also to be the guest of honour could not attend the prestigious event. However, he sent a congratulatory message to the newly inducted committee and wished all participants of Balakalotsavam the very best.
In his presidential address, Mr Pillai thanked everyone for re-electing him and his team as the Executive Committee for this year.
He commended the efforts of the previous executive committee in organising activities to promote and develop the socio-cultural and literary talents of the members and pledged that the current committee would continue on that path.
General Secretary Varghese Karakkal welcomed the gathering and Vice President Abdulrahman K delivered vote of thanks.
The high achievers of grade XII CBSE examinations Anu Balachandran, Shruthi Pillai and Reema Roy were felicitated. Vishnu G Renjith was also
felicitated for becoming a semi finalist in an Indian Reality Show Super Dancer Junior, which was aired on Malayalam channel Amrita TV.
More than 1,000 guests attended the event, which also saw a musical concert by Idea Star singers Arun Gopan and Preethi Warrier.
