MORE than 1,500 people attended performances by two popular Indian singers who took the stage at the Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS), Segaiya, last night.
Arun Gopan and Preeti Warrier, who both competed in the Idea Star Singer reality TV show, performed on the sidelines of an induction ceremony for the BKS' new executive committee.
Mr Gopan won the talent contest in 2007 and went on to work with Indian music directors including M S Viswanathan, Jessie and Rajamani, and perform in Dubai and Bahrain.
Mumbai-based Ms Warrier, was named one of the contest's most popular singers and has performances in Bahrain and other countries under her belt.
Both vocalists presented songs in Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam.
A 'Vasantham' performance by 16 young traditional dancers was also staged as part of the ceremony's entertainment programme.
The event also marked the launch of this year's BKS Devji Balakalotsavam children's festival that will continue throughout this month.
Meanwhile, BKS members' children who achieved exceptionally high marks at this year's Central Board of Secondary Education Grade 10 and 12 exams were honoured.
The samajam also honoured the son of member Ranjith Podikkaran, Vishnu, who reached the semi-finals of Amritha TV's Super Dancer reality show that took place in India.
Indian Ambassador Mohan Kumar was the event's chief guest.
