Satire spotlight on reality TV shows

THEATRE fans will be treated to a double dose of comedy when two Malayalam plays are staged tonight at the Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS), Segaiya.
The plays are being staged as part of the BKS' ongoing Sravanam 2010 celebration that is being held to mark the harvest festival of Onam.
The first, entitled Reality Show, throws light on the negative aspects of TV reality shows on family life, said organisers.
The second, entitled Horoscope, is a social commentary on fortune tellers and superstitions, they added.
Both will be directed by Keralite theatre personality P R Jijoy, who is a faculty member at the Thrissur School of Drama.
He has performed characters Oberon and Theseus in the Royal Shakespeare Company's productions of the play A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Meanwhile, Samajam members will present plays, mime sketches and skits tomorrow and on Wednesday.
Bahrain-based musicians will also present instrumental and semi-classical fusion music and dances as part of the festival celebrations on both days.
Malayalam language activist and theatre personality Bhaskara Poduval will direct skits that highlight the origins of the Onam festival being held on Thursday.
Indian TV channel Asianet Idea Star Singers Arun Gopan, Sudheesh Kumar, Preethi Varrier and Anju Joseph will perform at a concert on Friday.
Events will begin at 8pm each night and entry is free to all.
