THE new executive committee of the Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS) took over the reins last night, in a ceremony at its Segaiya premises.
The United Panel swept the boards with a vast majority in elections held on Friday.
The team was lead to victory by P V Radhakrishna Pillai who is former chairman of the Indian School Bahrain.
Mr Pillai, who will become the new president of the BKS, beat his opponent from the Reformers Panel, S Mohan Kumar, by a majority of 374 votes.
Other winners are K Abdulrehman, vice president; M K Veeramani, general secretary; A Kannan, assistant secretary; K S Sajukumar, treasurer; Saji Kudassanad, entertainment secretary; Jayan S Nair, librarian; T J Girish, membership secretary; Ashley R George, indoor games secretary; Biju M Satheesh, literary wing secretary and O M Anilkumar, internal auditor.
A total of 1,105 members voted.
Mr Pillai pledged to work diligently for the progress of the entire community within the guidelines of the Social Development Ministry, as a responsible non-governmental organisation.
"This mandate by members has increased our responsibility and commitment to the community," he said.
"The team is planning to give a new take off to the Samajam, which aims to provide service to all the community members and I request wholehearted support from all members of the Samajam for all the activities."
The new committee will be inducted on April 15.
