'Reel' chance at Bahrain festival

AMATEUR and professional film-makers are being urged to take part in an international short film festival.

The Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam is holding the event on December 17 and 18 to encourage people to venture into the profession.

It will be part of Bahrain's National Day celebrations and is being held in association with the Bahrain Cinema Club.

The festival is open to independent film-makers and entries will be considered if they run for 30 minutes or less and produced after January 2007.

Films can be made in any language, but all non-English language ones should have English subtitles.

A completed entry form must be submitted with each project.

Multiple submissions by the same director will be accepted as long as each film is accompanied by a separate entry form.

This must also include a film description of 50 words, complete production credits, film logline, director's headshot (digital, 200dpi minimum) and biography, list of previous and planned screenings and five stills from the film (digital, 200bpi minimum).

All films must be placed in bubble pack envelopes and entry will be acknowledged by an e-mail to the address given on the entry form.

All materials submitted become the property of the festival.

Entrants must acknowledge its right to copy any material for the festival's non-commercial use only.

The deadline for entries is November 25.

Films received after that date have no guarantee of being viewed for official selection consideration.

Entries will be pre-screened by the selection committee of the festival.

Fifteen films will be selected for public viewing.

Five prizes will be up for grabs, including best film, best director, best male actor, best female actor and young film-makers prize for projects by students aged between 13 and 18.

All shortlisted films will be screened at the BKS Hall on December 17 and 18.
