The Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam has launched a BKS Members’ Welfare Fund.
Following the BKS’s Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) that was held earlier this month, a unanimous decision was taken to institute a special fund as proposed by the Executive Committee. A set of by-laws has also been approved.
The objective of the fund is to provide immediate financial assistance to the family of the members in the event of death.
All active members, including life members, will be covered under this scheme until the age of 65. Each member will be required to contribute 500 fils per month that should be remitted with their membership subscription. This is a must for all, including both life members and those who have newly joined. Life members can pay their contributions quarterly, half yearly or annually.
“In the event of the death of any member, at any place for whatever reason other than suicide, the kin of the deceased will be entitled to financial assistance exclusively from the Samajam at an amount of not less than BD5,000. The money will be taken and distributed from the fund in accordance with the eligibility criteria stipulated in the by-laws,” said the Executive Committee.
The family of a member will be eligible for the assistance only if the deceased had been a member of the Samajam for at least two years. The fund will begin functioning from April 1 of this year but the disbursements will only begin from April 2013.
All members are advised to go through the by-laws that have been published on the Samajam notice board.
