Samajam ladies wing officials take charge

THE new members of the Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS) Ladies Wing will be inducted at a ceremony at the BKS, Segaiya, tomorrow.

The newly elected committee, led by Mruthula Balachandran, will take office at the ceremony at 8pm at the BKS Diamond Jubilee Hall.

Chief guest will be Indian social activist K Ajitha, who is visiting Bahrain.

Ms Ajitha is the president of the Anweshi society based in Calicut, India, which works for the empowerment of women and the underprivileged.

The programme will begin with an invocation Diya dance presented by the BKS Ladies Wing members, choreographed by Lakshmi Sreekumar and Molcy Yesudas.

Performance

It will also feature a performance of the Shakthi, a semi-classical dance that depicts the strength of women.

Members will then enact the play Muthassi 2010, which was written by Mathimukhi Sooraj and directed by Denesh Kuttiyil.

It is a commentary on practices in contemporary society, said officials.

Members will also present a group song and honour Samajam associate member and poet Zulfi Kutty, who received the first Kadammanitta Award instituted by the Kollam District Library Council, Kerala.

Members' children who topped this year's Indian Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) 10 and 12 grade exams will also be honoured.

Entry is open to all, but guests are requested to be seated by 7.45pm.
