BKS to induct committee

he Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS) will
be holding an induction ceremony for the
Executive Committee 2011-2012 on Friday, it was announced yesterday at a press conference.
The children’s youth festival, the BKS Devji Balakalotsavam will also be inaugurated during the upcoming ceremony. And, the high achievers of grade XII [2010-11] will also be felicitated at the event.
“Indian Ambassador Mohan Kumar will be the chief guest while well-known businessmen Padma Shree Dr Ravi Pillai will be the guest of honour and Devji Group of Jewellers Prakash Devji will be the special guest,” said BKS General Secretary Varghese Karakkal.
“Our aim is to revive the social activities scene, among expatriates in Bahrain. We believe it is our responsibility to ensure that social activities are brought back to its former glory,” said BKS President PV Radhakrishna Pillai.
He added, “Following what happened in this country, the socio-cultural and literary activities have taken a back seat and we aim to change that.”
Mr PV Pillai stated that the club had received nearly 2,000 entries from 600 students for 125 individual events of the Youth Festival, thus making it the maximum number of participants that the festival had ever seen.
General Convener of the Balakalotsavam Committee, Manoj Mathew explained that the competitions would be split into two schedules. The first would start from June 2 and go on till June 25 – it would include all literary and non-stage events. The second schedule, comprising stage and group events, would be held between September 12 and September 30.
“The students will be split into five groups on the basis of age and competitions will be judged by experts in the field. Efforts are on to collaborate with the Kerala Academies. The highest girl and boy scorers will be conferred the Kalathilakam and Kalapratibha awards respectively. Further, the highest scorer in each of the five groups will be crowned the group champion. Sangeetratna, Natyaratna and Sahityaratna awards will be given to those who get the highest points in music, dance and literary events respectively,” said Mr Mathew.
An open house will also be held on May 31 at 7.30pm. Students and parents will be given the rules and guidelines of the competitions during the session. A flag hoisting ceremony will also be held.
