A HOST of cultural and literary events have been lined up as part of a children's youth festival starting next month.
Indian singers Arun Govind and Preeti Warrier will fly to Bahrain to perform at Balakalotsavam 2011.
Forty cultural and literary events will take place at the Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS) in Manama.
They will range from five to 12 minutes and comprise traditional and folk dances, speeches and poetry recitations, story-telling, story-writing, a fancy dress competition and mono acting.
Organisers said more than 2,200 entries had been received and 550 participants already registered.
Entrants will be divided into five age groups, ranging from five to 16.
Group championship awards will be given to the three best groups and the top scoring boy and girl will be presented with the Kalathilakam and Kalaprathiba award.
The month-long event will begin on June 3 and then take a break before resuming in September.
Details were unveiled during a Press conference at the BKS yesterday.
Indian Ambassador Mohan Kumar was chief guest and Padmasree Ravi Pillai and Prakash Devji of Devji Group of Jewellers, who are the main sponsors of the event, guests of honour.
It is being organised by a 15-member Balakalotsavam committee, headed by chief convener Manoj Mathew.
Balakalotsavam is one of the most prestigious events in the BKS calendar and is organised to bring out the hidden talents of children and encourage them to discover their potential.

BKS to induct committee

be holding an induction ceremony for the
Executive Committee 2011-2012 on Friday, it was announced yesterday at a press conference.
The children’s youth festival, the BKS Devji Balakalotsavam will also be inaugurated during the upcoming ceremony. And, the high achievers of grade XII [2010-11] will also be felicitated at the event.
“Indian Ambassador Mohan Kumar will be the chief guest while well-known businessmen Padma Shree Dr Ravi Pillai will be the guest of honour and Devji Group of Jewellers Prakash Devji will be the special guest,” said BKS General Secretary Varghese Karakkal.
“Our aim is to revive the social activities scene, among expatriates in Bahrain. We believe it is our responsibility to ensure that social activities are brought back to its former glory,” said BKS President PV Radhakrishna Pillai.
He added, “Following what happened in this country, the socio-cultural and literary activities have taken a back seat and we aim to change that.”
Mr PV Pillai stated that the club had received nearly 2,000 entries from 600 students for 125 individual events of the Youth Festival, thus making it the maximum number of participants that the festival had ever seen.
General Convener of the Balakalotsavam Committee, Manoj Mathew explained that the competitions would be split into two schedules. The first would start from June 2 and go on till June 25 – it would include all literary and non-stage events. The second schedule, comprising stage and group events, would be held between September 12 and September 30.
“The students will be split into five groups on the basis of age and competitions will be judged by experts in the field. Efforts are on to collaborate with the Kerala Academies. The highest girl and boy scorers will be conferred the Kalathilakam and Kalapratibha awards respectively. Further, the highest scorer in each of the five groups will be crowned the group champion. Sangeetratna, Natyaratna and Sahityaratna awards will be given to those who get the highest points in music, dance and literary events respectively,” said Mr Mathew.
An open house will also be held on May 31 at 7.30pm. Students and parents will be given the rules and guidelines of the competitions during the session. A flag hoisting ceremony will also be held.

ബഹ്റൈന് കേരളീയ സമാജം പാഠശാലയുടെ പുതിയ അധ്യയന വര്ഷത്തിന്റെ പ്രവര്ത്തനോദ്ഘാടനം ഇന്ത്യന് എംബസി ഫസ്റ്റ് സെക്രട്ടറി എ. അജയ്കുമാര് നിര്വഹിക്കുന്നു.
അക്ഷരമുത്തുകള് കൊത്തിയെടുക്കും കുഞ്ഞരിപ്രാവുകള് ഞങ്ങള്' എന്നുപാടിയും ആ അക്ഷരങ്ങളുടെ കൗതുകങ്ങളിലൂഞ്ഞാലാടിയും 400ഓളം കുട്ടികള് മാതൃഭാഷാ പഠനത്തിന് തുടക്കം കുറിച്ചു. ഗള്ഫിലെ തന്നെ മാതൃഭാഷാ പഠനത്തിന്റെ ഏറ്റവും വിപുലമായ കളരിയായ കേരളീയ സമാജം പാഠശാലയുടെ പുതിയ അധ്യയന വര്ഷം എംബസി ഫസ്റ്റ് സെക്രട്ടറി എ അജയ്കുമാര് ഉദ്ഘാടനം ചെയ്തു. ബെന്യാമിന്, സമാജം പ്രസിഡന്റ് പി.വി രാധാകൃഷ്ണപിള്ള, സെക്രട്ടറി വര്ഗീസ് കാരക്കല്, പാഠശാല അധ്യാപകര്, കുട്ടികളുടെ രക്ഷിതാക്കള്, സമാജം ഭാരവാഹികള് എന്നിവര് സന്നിഹിതരായിരുന്നു. പാഠശാല വിദ്യാര്ഥിനി അഞ്ജു ശിവദാസ് അവതാരകയായിരുന്നു.
തങ്ങളുടെ കുട്ടികള് മലയാളം മറക്കരുതെന്ന ആഗ്രഹത്തോടെയാണ് രക്ഷിതാക്കള് അഞ്ചുവയസ്സുമുതലുള്ള കുട്ടികളെ പാഠശാലയിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുവന്നത്.
400 പേരില് 80 ശതമാനവും ബഹ്റൈനില് ജനിച്ചുവളര്ന്നവരാണ്. അതുകൊണ്ടുതന്നെ മലയാളവുമായി ഒരുതരത്തിലുള്ള ബന്ധവും ഇവര്ക്കില്ല. സംസാരിക്കാന് അത്യാവശ്യം വാക്കുകള് മാത്രമാണ് ഇവരുടെ കൈമുതല്.
'വാക്കുകള് കൂട്ടിച്ചൊല്ലാനറിയാത്ത' ഈ കിടാങ്ങള് മൂന്നാം ക്ലാസിലെത്തുമ്പോള് കവിത ചൊല്ലാനും അഞ്ചാം ക്ലാസിലെത്തുമ്പോള് പത്രം വായിക്കാനും ശേഷിയുള്ളവരാകുന്നു. ഏഴാം ക്ലാസുകഴിഞ്ഞാല് എഴുത്തിന്റെയും വായനയുടെയും കാര്യത്തില് സ്വയം പര്യാപ്തരാകുന്നു. ജി ശങ്കരക്കുറുപ്പും സുഗതകുമാരിയും കുഞ്ഞുണ്ണിമാഷും മുതല് സിപ്പി പള്ളിപ്പുറം വരെയുള്ളവരുടെ കവിതകളില് മുങ്ങിത്തപ്പിയാണ് കുട്ടികള് ഭാഷയുടെ നവരസം നുകരുന്നത്.
ഏഴാം ക്ലാസുവരെയാണ് പാഠശാലയിലുള്ളത്. പഠിപ്പിന്റെ നിലവാരമനുസരിച്ചാണ് ക്ലാസ് കയറ്റം. ഒരു ക്ലാസില് ശരാശരി 20 കുട്ടികള്. 36 കുട്ടികള് വരെയുള്ള ക്ലാസുണ്ട്. ഇത്തവണ പ്രവേശനം നേടിയവരില്170 പേര് തുടക്കക്കാരാണെന്ന് പാഠശാലയുടെ പ്രധാന അധ്യാപകനായ സുധി പുത്തന്വേലിക്കര പറഞ്ഞു. ഇവരെ വിവിധ ക്ലാസുകളാക്കി തിരിക്കും. കേരള സര്ക്കാര് സിലബസാണ് ഇവിടെയും. കൂടാതെ ഭാഷയും സാഹിത്യവും ചരിത്രവും സംസ്കാരവും പരിചയപ്പെടുത്താന് പ്രത്യേക ക്ലാസുകളും. കൂടുതല് ശാസ്ത്രീയമായി പുനര്ക്രമീകരിച്ച സിലബസാണ് ഇത്തവണ നടപ്പാക്കുന്നത്. കഴിഞ്ഞകാല പോരായ്മകള് നികത്തിയാണ് ഈ വര്ഷം പാഠപുസ്തകങ്ങള് തയാറാക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നത്. മൂന്നു ടേമുകളില് ഒരു വര്ഷത്തെ പഠനം അവസാനിക്കും. ടേം പരീക്ഷകളും വാര്ഷിക പരീക്ഷയുമുണ്ട്.
ഭാഷയില് പരിശീലനവും ഉന്നത യോഗ്യതയും നേടിയ 19 അധ്യാപകരാണ് പാഠശാലക്ക് നേതൃതം നല്കുന്നത്. പലരും ഇന്ത്യന് സ്കൂളുകളിലെ അധ്യാപകര് കൂടിയാണ്. ബിജു എം സതീഷിന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിലുള്ള കമ്മിറ്റിക്കാണ് പാഠശാലയുടെ നേതൃത്വം.

കേരളീയ സമാജം ബാലകലോല്സവം ജൂണ് ആദ്യവാരം
ഗള്ഫ് മേഖലയിലെ പ്രവാസി കുട്ടികളുടെ ഏറ്റവും വിപുലമായ സര്ഗസപര്യയായ കേരളീയ സമാജം ബാലകലോല്സവത്തിന് ജൂണ് ആദ്യവാരം തിരി തെളിയും. ബഹ്റൈനിലെ മുഴുവന് മലയാളി കുട്ടികള്ക്കും പങ്കെടുക്കാവുന്ന ബാലകലോല്സവത്തില് 125ഓളം ഇനങ്ങളില് മല്സരം നടക്കും. 45 ദിവസം നീളുന്ന പരിപാടിയില് കഴിഞ്ഞവര്ഷം 500ലധികം പേരാണ് പങ്കെടുത്തത്.
നാട്ടിലെ സ്കൂള് യുവജനോല്സവത്തിന്റെ ക്രമീകരണങ്ങളും വിധിനിര്ണയ രീതികളുമാണ് ബാലകലോല്സവത്തിന് ഒരുങ്ങുന്നത്. നാട്ടില് നിന്നുള്ളവരടക്കമുള്ള കലാകാരന്മാരാണ് വിധികര്ത്താക്കള്. കേരള സംഗീത നാടക അക്കാദമി തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്ത നര്ത്തകരാണ് കഴിഞ്ഞവര്ഷം നൃത്തമല്സരങ്ങളുടെ വിധികര്ത്താക്കളായി വന്നത്.

BKS to host badminton umpiring course
THE Bahrain Badminton and Squash Federation (BBSF), in association with the Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS), will conduct an umpiring course at the BKS Diamond Jubilee Hall starting on Friday.
The four-day course will begin at 9.30am with two sessions on the first day. On other days, there will be one session starting at 7pm. The course is sanctioned by Badminton Asia Confederation (BAC) and will be conducted by the confederation's accredited referee Sudhakar Vemuri from India.
Vemuri has officiated in many BAC International tournaments as referee, including the Bahrain International Challenge held at the BKS premises last December.
He has also officiated as co-assessor for the BAC Certificated umpires at the Badminton Asia Championships held at Chengdu in April and also as the deputy referee of the recently concluded India Open Super Series held at New Delhi.
The course will conclude on Monday with a written and practical test. All the participants, who are assessed to have passed the test, will be certified by the Bahrain Badminton and Squash Federation as national umpires.
The course is open to badminton players of all nationalities. Course fee will be BD25. For registration and further information, contact event manager of the Bahrain Badminton and Squash Federation Ashley George on 36500103.

കേരളീയസമാജം മലയാളം പാഠശാല: ക്ലാസുകള് അടുത്താഴ്ച മുതല്
ബഹ്റൈന് കേരളീയസമാജം മലയാളം പാഠശാലയില് പുതിയ അധ്യയനവര്ഷത്തെ ക്ലാസ്സുകള് അടുത്ത ആഴ്ചയോടെ ആരംഭിക്കും. നേരത്തെ സമാജം അംഗങ്ങളുടെ കുട്ടികള്ക്കു മാത്രമായി പാഠശാല പരിമിതപ്പെടുത്തിയിരുന്നു. എന്നാല് ബഹ്റൈനിലെ എല്ലാ പ്രവാസി മലയാളികളുടെയും കുട്ടികള്ക്കു പ്രവേശനം നല്കാന് ആരംഭിച്ചതോടെ കൂടുതല് പേര് ഇതിന്റെ പ്രവര്ത്തനങ്ങളില് പങ്കാളികളായെത്തുന്നുണ്ട്. പ്രത്യേക ഉപസമിതിയുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിലാണ് പാഠശാലയുടെ പ്രവര്ത്തനങ്ങള്. എല്ലാ തിങ്കളാഴ്ചയും രാത്രി എട്ടു മുതല് ഒന്പതു വരെയാണ് ക്ലാസ്. ഫോണ്: 30045442, 30005370.
